I live in the country on 9 acres with my family. Our property is certified with the Nat. Wildlife Fed. as a perfect wildlife habitat. We enjoy bird watching and provide a safe haven for animals of all kinds. The children that come to our home love hiking our property and learning about the plants and animals in our big backyard. They learn about being kind to their environment. I have a degree in art and early childhood and love to incorporate the two. I love planning projects for my home dayare around art and science. I plan on posting curriculum ideas that parents and teachers can use. I'm also a gourd artist, and spend a lot of time working on my gourd ideas. My art is on Etsy and I really enjoy being part of this creative group of people. I'm constantly trying to come up with new and unusual design concepts. My husband and I have two grown kids and we're looking forward to retirement in the next few years.
I'm pretty excited with some new pieces I've been working on. Have really been enjoying making these mixed media collages. I love using different types of architecture such as arches and old buildings to get my inspiration.
I also do custom pieces through Etsy. You can view art on my shop through simplygourdgeous1. I'm in the process of doing two more pieces. One of women in South Africa, and another of Mt. Baker, Washington, incorporating American Bald Eagles. Will display these when finished.
I did this one for someone who had been to Mt. Kilimanjaro, and asked me to replicate what he saw there. I used inlay with black beads around the mouth of the gourd. I research all my custom gourds for patterns, traditions and customs of the region.
